Biraliny

Commissioned by Public Transport Authority & Metronet / Managed by Element WA / Collaboration with Jade Dolman / 2024

The mural simulatenously speaks to the past, present & future of the site through bold forms & abstracted lettering. It is a celebration of its origins & connection to country through strong references to waterways & the meeting places where stories were shared for generations. As you enter the station from all sides you are introduced to a visual language expressed through large monochromatic forms that ignite the imagination & spark further inquiry. As these forms begin to weave together & converge under the major overpass, the viewer is introduced to the Nyoongar place name 'Biraliny' & the introduced name 'Bayswater'. It was a honour to collaborate with Jade Dolman in creating this artwork & to see/listen to the response of so many as they went about their daily commute through the Bayswater Train Station.

Thanks to Papa G, Andrew Reid & Martin Frazer for the incredible hands on painting support!
