Cooinda

‘Cooinda’ meaning ‘Happy Meeting Place’ in Noongar language.

Located at Brockman Park in East Bunbury.

When visiting the site, I was immediately inspired by the flora & natural materials that had been introduced into the space. The discovered flora & it’s interaction with light bouncing off the wa- ter began to create various shadowed forms that gave imagery to the proposed composition. My intent was to capture this brilliance with a bold palette that ignited the students imaginations from Cooinda Primary School. To remind them that nature is a profound teacher & that this space can be part of their own development through the years through an increased sense of place & consequently an adopted ownership. My intent in celebrating ‘Cooinda’ is drawing us back to it’s Noongar origins & reminding visitors of all walks that this is truly a ‘Happy Meeting Place’.
